Water for Anugerah
SD Anugerah is a primary school serving children from three nearby villages. It had no direct access to running water. We funded a dedicated borehole well, and clean water now runs on site. The project also reached over 200 people in nearby Wali Ate village.
This project was done in partnership with Happy Hearts Indonesia.
On site
From first drill to opening day
Before and after
No more hauling buckets
Before
Rp 150,000 per tank, or wait for rain
The school either bought water one tank at a time or relied on rainwater. When it ran out, young students carried heavy buckets from communal reservoirs to the toilets.
After
A borehole well on school grounds
A permanent source of clean water. The buckets are put away, and the kids can focus on their education.
Project timeline
How the well came together
-
Project launch
We launched Water for Anugerah with Happy Hearts Indonesia. Fundraising began for a dedicated borehole well to bring clean water to SD Anugerah.
-
Breaking ground
Drilling began on the school grounds at SD Anugerah. The goal was a permanent source of clean water for 302 students and 26 teachers.
-
Water reached
Clean water began flowing from the new well. Before anyone used it, the water went through quality checks to make sure it was safe.
-
Opening ceremony
We held the opening ceremony with the school and community in Sumba. The well was already in use, and students no longer haul buckets.
“This access to clean water will be used by the students to further improve their hygiene.”

Sumba is still with us.
In August our team traveled to Sumba for the opening ceremony that marked the end of the project. In Wali Ate village, where the project served over 200 people, we watched wells take shape and stood beside families who will no longer walk hours just to fill a jug.
Clean water changes everything downstream: health, time, school and dignity.
